Gene Rosellini- Gene Rosellini was, in a way, similar to Chris McCandless. He was borbn into a wealthy family and was good academically and physically. He didn't like how society was so he left it and went into the wild like Chris to live on his own. Unlike Chris though, Rosellini went into the wild to live without modern day technology like electricity or even hammers. He ate berries, roots, seaweed, and hunter game with spears and snares. At the end of his life he killed himself, a thing Chris would never do.
Jon Waterman- Born in the same suburbs of Chris. He doesn’t have a good relationship with his father being similar to Chris. Went out exploring and climbing mountains by himself. He had no money and wandered. His morals were completely different then Chris’s he was for unrestricted sex and drugs, What Chris would be against. He did not die in the wild, but he did entered a Psychiatric Institute
Carl McCunn- Carl McCunn is very similar to Chris. He moved to Fairbanks then decided to live in the wild for a couple of months, March 1st to the end of August . Unlike Chris though Carl was a lot more prepared for the journey then Chris was. Although Carl was more prepared then Chris he still made a major mistake, he forgot to make plans for the pilot to come get him during August. Carl was friendly, popular, smart, and responsible like Chris was, everyone like him. The reason Carl is not the most like Chris, although he did live and die in the Alaskan wild, he shot himself in the head because he couldn't take it anymore.
Everett Ruess- Everett Ruess is the most like Chris out of these 4 people. He spent the summers hitch hiking throughout the Uniter States. He eventually came to be very fond of a place like Chris was to Fairbanks. After getting a high school diploma Ruess decided to live out of his backpack and travel with little money and sleeping on dirt. Throughout the journey Ruess made friend like Chris made in his. Both were undeterred by physical discomfort and would suffer if it meant getting closer to the wild. Both Went by different names thoughout their journey, Chris was Alex Supertramp and Everett was Lan Rameau then changed it to Evert Rulan then back to Everett then lastly to Nemo. Unlike Chris though his parents search party was successful, the found Everett but he was dead. No one knoew how Everett died or even where is body is.
